This chant was not originally intended as a B side, although it ultimately was released as the flip of the Smiley Heroes and Villains single. When Brian was working on Heroes in February he told a music reporter "I'm doing the final mix on the A side tonight, but I can't decide what to do on the other side." -- Lou Shenk, A SMiLE Primer
Apparently not intended for SMILE (although Priore places it at the very end, after "Surf's Up"), this track was eventually released as the flip-side to the "Heroes And Villains" single in August, 1967. (An alternate mix, created by Mark Linett in 1988 and curiously given the title "Well, You're Welcome," does not feature the echo-drenched fade-in.) -- David Prokopy, The Prokopy Notes
Brian even explicitly said in contemporary interviews that he had no idea what the B-side for the single would be, and was reportedly considering several different songs for the role (for Smiley Smile, he settled on the a cappella chant "You're Welcome" at the last minute). -- Ed Howard, Smile: The Definitive Lost Album
